The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR), one of the federal government's National Institutes of Health, leads the nation in conducting and supporting research to improve oral health. As a research organization, NIDCR does not provide financial assistance for dental treatment. The following resources, however, may help you find the dental care you need.
Clinical Trials
NIDCR sometimes seeks volunteers with specific dental, oral, and craniofacial conditions to participate in research studies, also known as clinical trials. Researchers may provide study participants with limited free or low-cost dental treatment for the particular condition they are studying. To find out if there are any NIDCR clinical trials that you might fit into, go to "NIDCR Studies Seeking Patients." For a complete list of all federally funded clinical trials, visit ClinicalTrials.gov. To see if you qualify for any clinical trials being conducted at our Bethesda, Maryland, campus, you can call the Clinical Center's Patient Recruitment and Public Liaison Office at 1-800-411-1222.
Dental Schools
Dental schools
can be a good source of quality, reduced-cost dental treatment. Most of these teaching facilities have clinics that allow dental students to gain experience treating patients while providing care at a reduced cost. Experienced, licensed dentists closely supervise the students. Post-graduate and faculty clinics are also available at most schools.
Dental hygiene schools
may also offer supervised, low-cost preventive dental care as part of the training experience for dental hygienists.
Bureau of Primary Health Care
The Bureau of Primary Health Care, a service of the Health Resources and Services Administration
(1-888-Ask-HRSA), supports federally-funded community health centers across the country that provide free or reduced-cost health services, including dental care.
Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services
(CMS) administers three important federally-funded programs: Medicare, Medicaid, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).
-
Medicare
is a health insurance program for people who are 65 years and older or for people with specific disabilities. Medicare dental coverage is limited; it does not cover most routine dental care or dentures. -
Medicaid
is a state-run program that provides medical benefits, and in some cases dental benefits, to eligible individuals and families. States set their own guidelines regarding who is eligible and what services are covered. Most states provide limited emergency dental services for people age 21 or over, while some offer comprehensive services. For most individuals under the age of 21, dental services are provided under Medicaid. -
CHIP
helps children up to age 19 who are without health insurance. CHIP provides medical coverage and, in most cases, dental services to children who qualify. Dental services covered under this program vary from state to state.
CMS
(1-800-MEDICARE) can provide detailed information about each of these programs and refer you to state programs where applicable.
State and Local Resources
Your state or local health department may know of programs in your area that offer free or reduced-cost dental care. Call your local or state health department to learn more about their financial assistance programs. Check your local telephone book for the number to call.
United Way
The United Way
may be able to direct you to free or reduced-cost dental services in your community. Local United Way chapters can be located on the United Way website.
Check thesse sites out to get help with dentures....
For those of you needing free or low cost dental help, there are clinics and services to help you. If you check my blog out at http://friendshelpingfriends.aidpage.com/ you will find a huge listing of clinics and free clinics.
Also, you might want to check this out my other site at Discounted Dental Services.
No one should have to go without dental care because of income status.

Dental Health Arlington (DHA) is a nonprofit organization, which opened its doors in 1993 to provide access to care for low-income residents of southeast Tarrant County, Texas. Our mission is to provide preventive and pain relieving services to low income residents as well as to educate children about good oral hygiene habits. Each year DHA provides free and low-cost dental care for approximately 2,500 people of all ages in our clinic. SMILES school-based prevention program helps 8,000 disadvantaged elementary school children in Arlington, Mansfield and Fort Worth who might otherwise have gone without care.
-Dental Health Arlington’s clinic sees people of all ages who are economically disadvantaged.
-There is no residency restriction.
-Those who can prove they live in Arlington and are on a government assistance program can receive lower cost services due to a special grant from the City of Arlington.
-All other services cost approximately one-third of regular dental prices.
Each time you come to an appointment you must bring:
- Proof of income (check stub, food stamps, Section 8 Housing, Medicaid or CHIP card, income tax return)
- Proof of where you live (Utility bill or rent receipt)
-

To make an appointment:
- New patient appointments are taken on the third Friday of every other month.
- Call 817-277-1165 to make the appointment. No walk up appointments taken. Call early as appointments fill quickly.
- If you are having pain, you may come in any day there is a dentist. Arrive at 8:00 AM and bring the items listed above. There is no guaranteed you will be seen, but DHA will make every effort to work you in between patients. Only the pain issue will be treated at this visit.
Services Available:
- Exams and x-rays
- Cleanings
- Sealants
- Fillings
- Extractions
- Full dentures and partials
- Very limited access to Oral Surgery such as removal of wisdom teeth
- Extremely limited root canals and crowns
The ability to receive quality dental care is important but many Americans must often choose between dental care and other expenses of daily living - and dental care is often sacrificed.
While it is reported nationally that access to affordable dental care is a major problem, organized dentistry in the state of Ohio has been visionary, responding to this need with statewide programs that provide needed access to oral health care to qualified individuals.
One such program is Dental OPTIONS, sponsored by the Ohio Dental Association and Ohio Department of Health. It is a program that links people in need with dentists who have agreed to treat approved patients for reduced fees.

More programs are needed to ensure that all Ohioans get the dental care they need. The ODA is working with the Ohio Department of Health to determine cost-effective ways to provide care to vulnerable Ohioans.
The Ohio Department of Health provides information on finding dental care, including Safety Net Dental Care Programs in the state, and information on Healthy Start, Dental OPTIONS and more. A Safety Net program offers sliding fee schedules, reduced fees or free care to those who cannot afford a private dentist. For information on safety net programs, contact a referral coordinator of the OPTIONS program, 1.888.765.6789.

Hi everyone.
I am at 24 year old work at home mom. I have three kids. I am in the process of finish college among many other things. I have low self esteem because my teeth. They are bad. I have had bad teeth since I was a kid. My mom never got my teeth fixed as a child. And as an young adult I never had health insurance. When I started working at my last job I had insurance but never had enough to pay for my dental procedures. Now as I am self employed I do not have insurance and I am suffering from tooth aches all the time. I have crooked teeth, I was told when I was younger that my mouth was too small and they needed to pull some teeth to make room for the ones I have. But that was never done.
If anyone knows of how i can get low cost or free dental help from someone in the Houston area PLEASE let me know ! Thank you so much!
God Bless!

I was thinking about abbreviating Association, because who would believe that there were that many Assos in the states, or what's worse is Ass's , so I decided to tough it out, knowing that they wouldn't like either. So, back to typing I go.
